Medicare's QIO News is a quarterly e-Newsletter from the office of Barry
M. Straube, MD, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Chief Medical Officer
and Director of the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality.
Medicare's QIO News is designed to update national stakeholders and
partner organizations that represent healthcare providers on the CMS
Quality Improvement Organization Program and its initiatives for
delivering better care to people with Medicare.

TMF Awarded GSA
Designation
The U.S. General Services
Administration (GSA) has awarded TMF designation as a GSA authorized
federal supply schedule contract partner.

For a limited time TMF is providing
support for small and medium-sized practices implementing a
Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Additional
Physician Reviewers Wanted
TMF is seeking additional physicians from across the state to conduct
utilization and quality reviews.

Working Together To Improve
Patient Outcomes
TMF has completed the
March/April 2008 regional workgroup meetings for hospitals. If you were
unable to attend, you may download slides from the events.
Alliance of Rural and
Community Hospitals (ARCH) Meeting in June
TMF will be hosting an Alliance of Rural and Community Hospitals (ARCH)
workgroup meeting on Friday, June 6, 2008 in Abilene, Texas. It will
include topics related to implications of non-compliance, engaging
physicians and nurses to improve compliance, specification manual
changes, and hospital sharing of barriers and successes.
Hospital Discharge Appeal Rights
Effective July 2, 2007, Medicare beneficiaries and
Medicare Advantage plan enrollees who are hospital inpatients in Texas
have a statutory right to appeal to TMF for an expedited review of a
discharge decision. To contact TMF to appeal a discharge decision
beginning July 2, call 1-800-725-8339.
